Boing Boing is Odd and We All Love Boing Boing
The biggest blog out there is Boing Boing.
A sampling of their posts (and there have surely been many over the last six years): Improvised truck armor in Iraq, Akihabara as “geek sex paradise,” Space Alien Illustrations, and an Official Issue Illuminati leather jacket.
After all, the site’s tagline is A Directory of Wonderful Things. Perhaps bOING bOING is the perfect study of odd as wonderful.
The site has four editors who sift though submissions. Gee, can we even imagine—thousands? In six years, millions of people yearning to be wonderful? The site draws about 10 million hits a month, and Technorati says that they are the most linked-to blog on the Internet. Impressive.
And odd, isn’t it? If, according to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, the future of the Internet is going to be about building communities, and the most sprawling blog in the online universe is an amalgamation of the strangest doings of human beings, what’s our most common bond?
Oh, and if you want the Illuminati jacket, it’s on sale at Wilsons Leather. Supplies are limited.
