Illegal Dandelions

Brooklyn Judge Writes Children's Book as Immigration "Allegory"

Orchid A report in the New York Law Journal uncovers a Brooklyn judge who has penned a children's book that, if you will, takes a stance against illegal immigration. It's called, "Hot House Flowers," it's self-published, and it's pretty clear why.

Here's the story: ugly dandelions "from the outside" attack the beautiful orchids and roses. The Criminal Court judge, John H. Wilson, explained that the book is meant as an allegory about the "problem of illegal immigration."

Judge Wilson says he consulted the advisory ethics committee before publishing the book, but it's next to impossible how any attorney appearing before him on an immigration matter wouldn't first thing motion for the justice to take himself off the case; the kid's book is an undying argument.

Why Judge Wilson would go ahead and publish a clearly-pointed book is curious enough, but to write a children's book whose tone is confrontational, if not suggestively xenophobic, is simply confounding.

There's a reason one self-publishes. --ANDREW BAST

There's good reason to hate ugly dandelions. They uproot sidewalks, cause initial cracks in foundations that have led to the eventual destruction of 10 story buildings. Not to mention the lasting effects of dandelion wine. Having a home in eastern CT & trying to perfect the weed free lawn has made me aware. Of course, you folk in NYC could care less. All you worry about is avoiding dog doo and your hapess Giants. There is more to life than your little judgephobic cringes.
