The Last Time I Said Last Was the Last Time

From this week's issue of The New Yorker:

Christina, he says, is his last wife (he has had three others). He is superstitious-won't allow a dinner table of thirteen-and, in any other context, avoids using the word "last," which he finds morbid.

Poor Christina.
